Loraine Clark’s art is dedicated to traditional Native American style, with an
eye for design and application for today’s discerning buyer.
Her interest began as a child, after meeting a Native American leader from the Narragansett tribe,
known for owning a trading post as well as being a renowned bead work artist.
Loraine studied under him and promised to carry on the traditional art with respect to native peoples.
Her design style reflects the appearance and texture of traditional sources, with the allowance of a quality acrylic medium. The result is a product that will last for generations to come.
A pictographic winter elk robe has a stick figure motif of an elk hunt across the
top, a central strip with 4 roundels and an elk hunt ceremony along the bottom,
with the sun and moon blessing the sacred ceremony. The roundels are
medicine wheels of the sacred four directions. The human and animal figures are in the style of Algonquin artists of the late 1700’s to early 1800’s. Original designsof robes are difficult to identify due to the trading amongst tribes and the many artists contributing to the overall design. Size: 58” x 94
